Oxnard’s neighborhoods span a wide range of housing eras — the historic La Colonia district near downtown, established in the late 1890s to house agricultural workers and still largely single-family and multifamily homes today; the walkable Historic Downtown core, with around 139 buildings in Spanish Colonial, Craftsman, and Period Revival bungalow styles; and newer master-planned areas like RiverPark, built beside the Santa Clara River with single-family homes and townhomes dating mostly to the 2000s. That range shows up directly in our service calls: older La Colonia and Historic Downtown homes frequently need panel upgrades and rewiring to safely support modern appliance and AC loads, while RiverPark and Channel Islands Harbor homeowners more often call for EV charger circuits and smart-home wiring. Building permits, including for electrical panel replacement and upgrades, are issued through the City of Oxnard Building and Engineering Division at 214 South C Street, and Southern California Edison must approve panel locations and coordinate service after a permit is issued.
