Los Angeles is enormous, and this page focuses on the central neighborhoods most homeowners mean when they say “LA electrician” — Koreatown, Mid-City, and the residential edges of Downtown. Koreatown alone has roughly 47,000 homes, most of them in pre-1978 buildings that fall under the city’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance, with a mix of pre-1940 brick and Art Deco structures alongside mid-century apartments. Homes and small multi-family buildings of this age typically carry original wiring, undersized panels, and grounding that predates central air or EV charging by decades. Any electrical work here goes through the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS), and the neighborhood is served by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) rather than Southern California Edison, which changes how service upgrades and utility coordination get scheduled compared to most surrounding cities.
