Outside the arts district, classic Valley ranch homes from the 1950s and 60s often need service upgrades to handle modern loads like EV chargers and central air. North Hollywood is part of the City of Los Angeles, so electrical work is permitted through the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS), typically through the Valley office in Van Nuys, and electric service is provided by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) rather than a separate city utility.
