Chatsworth sits at the northwest corner of the San Fernando Valley, and its housing reflects that edge-of-the-hills setting: larger lots, horse properties, older ranch homes with detached garages and ADUs, and hillside-edge homes tucked against the Santa Susana foothills. Many of these older properties still run on original fuse boxes or undersized panels that trip repeatedly once modern appliances, workshops, or AC units are added. Because parts of Chatsworth and Chatsworth Park fall within Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones, some electrical and construction work here involves added review for ignition-resistant materials and defensible space. As part of the City of Los Angeles, Chatsworth permits go through the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS), and electric service is provided by LADWP, which must approve capacity checks and any meter upgrades before larger projects move forward. Long, hot Valley summers push heavy AC and well-pump loads on the larger lots typical here, which is a common reason we’re called out for panel and fuse box issues.
