Long Beach’s housing stock is genuinely split by neighborhood. Uptown areas like Bixby Knolls and California Heights are dominated by Spanish Colonial Revival, Tudor, and Craftsman homes built mostly in the 1920s and 1930s, while Belmont Shore and Belmont Heights carry a dense mix of Craftsman bungalows and early duplexes near the coast. Much of the city outside these single-family pockets is older multi-family housing — duplexes, fourplexes, and small apartment buildings — many of which still run on original 1930s-1950s wiring and undersized panels.
